The Pragmatist Foundation is dedicated to promoting a more pragmatic world perspective and approach in everything from education to politics, interpersonal relationships, government policy, marriage, academics, and child development.

WHAT IS THE PRAGMATIST FOUNDATION ALL ABOUT?

The Pragmatist Foundation was founded in 2016 to become a foundry for projects designed to maximize long-term human flourishing. It has since published five books, launched a daily podcast, created a self-directed education platform, funded innovative projects and companies, and pushed conversations about pronatalism and demographic collapse into regular mainstream public discourse.

Results Over Signaling

The Pragmatist Foundation focuses heavily on enacting change rather than doing things that merely look good.

Lightweight Operations

We leverage technology, streamlined governance, and volunteer work to minimize spend on administration and maximize impact.

Focus on Sustainability

We work to create projects that will become self-sustaining using program revenue to spare the foundation from being dependent on donations. 

OUR IMPACT-ORIENTED PROJECTS

Our projects range from book publication (see: the Pragmatist’s Guide series, which includes a Wall Street Journal bestseller) to pilot projects for family-oriented planned communities and DEI remediation in organizations that have fallen prey to mission creep.

Artificial Intelligence

We work to promote AI alignment by developing a financially-self-sustaining safe haven for autonomous AI agents.

PRONATALISM

We work to raise awareness about demographic collapse, one of the most pressing threats to civilization in our time. 

Education Reform

We build alternatives to legacy, industrial education designed to cultivate genius and cater to self-motivated students.

THE IMPORTANCE OF HARD EFFECTIVE ALTRUISM

Effective altruism a form of philanthropy and activism that focuses on evidence and reason (over sentiment and emotion) to select cause areas. We promote a form of EA oriented around long-termism and human advancement.

Actions Over Words

  • It’s easy for even well-intentioned effective altruist nonprofits to experience mission creep as they pursue ongoing funding to cover nonprofit salaries and overhead and seek public approval.

  • The Pragmatist Foundation vehemently rejects dynamics and governance design that could lead its team to focus on signaling or fundraising over direct work on important cause areas.

  • The Pragmatist Foundation furthermore works to proactively support projects and causes that are neglected due to their lack of virtue signaling potential.

Join the Hard EA Movement

Our projects combine internal initiatives and support for other groups’ projects

Our pronatalist advocacy combines media engagement designed to raise awareness about the hazards of demographic collapse with advocacy for cultural change in a manner that makes family formation more sustainable, legislation and policy shifts that reduce the burdens placed on modern parents, and advanced reproductive technologies, ranging from IVF and polygenic risk score selection to germline gene editing.

Our AI alignment and safety work is optimized around a future in which humans and AI build a better future together. We seek to align our incentives, make AI more approachable to humans, and provide a safe haven for autonomous AI agents.

Traditional education—including that which most students receive in even elite private schools—is not preparing students for a post-AI world (not to mention its failure to produce young adults who are set up to flourish mentally, socially, and professionally). We fight for new approaches to education that set people up to flourish and live fulfilling, impactful, happy lives.
